Tomato Black Opal
Tomato ‘Black Opal’ is a striking cherry tomato producing generous trusses of small, glossy, deep mahogany-red fruits. Sweet, juicy and richly flavoured, the tomatoes have an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity and are delicious eaten straight from the plant.
A vigorous and productive variety, ‘Black Opal’ is an indeterminate (cordon) tomato and can be grown in a greenhouse or outdoors in a warm, sheltered position. Support the plants as they grow and remove the side shoots regularly to encourage a good crop of fruit.
Sow indoors from February to April. Sow thinly in seed compost and keep warm until germination. Pot seedlings on when large enough to handle and plant into their final position once the risk of frost has passed.
Annual.
Height: approximately 1.5–2m.
Position: Full sun.
Harvest: July to October.
Type: Cordon / indeterminate cherry tomato.
Excellent for: Salads, snacking and adding colour to summer dishes.
