Surface sow and do not cover the seed, as light helps germination.
SEED SAVING
Allow a few flowers to mature fully and collect the seed once it is ripe and dry. Store somewhere cool, dry and labelled.
Grown, harvested and packed by Missenden Seeds in the Chiltern Hills. Open-pollinated and grown without chemical pesticides or peat.
Sowing time: Sow indoors from February to April, or sow outdoors in April and May. Surface sow the seeds and do not cover them, as they need light to germinate.
Plant out: Plant outdoors from May onwards, after the risk of frost has passed.
Flowering period: June to October.
Height: Up to 90 cm, depending on the variety. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil. Taller varieties may need support.
Seed saving: Allow seed pods to dry on the plant. Collect the tiny seeds once the pods have turned brown and store them in a cool, dry place.
